Knowledge and Attitude about School-based Oral Health Programs of Student¢¥s Mothers in Seoul


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate knowledge and attitude about school-based oral health program of the mother¢¥s in Seoul. A questionnaire with 15 items was personally interviewed to 1,200 mothers of elementary, middle school and high school students in Seoul. Mothers were selected by a ramdom sampling method. The collected data was analyzed by age group.
The obtained results were as follows:
1. 60.3% of mothers knew school-based fluoride mouth rinsing program, 37.7% of mothers knew the effect of school-based fluoride mouth rinsing program. 93.4% of mothers upholded school-based fluoride mouth rinsing program.
2. 25.9% of mothers knew school-based tooth brushing program, 18.2% of
mothers knew the effect of school-based tooth brushing program, 13.7% of
mothers knew the director of school-based tooth brushing program. 94.0% of
mothers upholded school-based tooth brushing program.
3. Only 2.1% of mothers knew school-based comprehensive incremental oral health care program, 1.0% of mothers knew the interval of this program, 1.7% of mothers knew the services of this program, 1.5% of mothers knew the effect of this program, and 1.1% of mothers knew the director of this program. 90.3% of mothers upholded school-based comprehensive incremental oral health care program.
4. The knowledge level about school-based tooth brushing, program and school-based comprehensive incremental oral health care program was very low. Therefore, oral health education was recommended for mothers.
5. Education about school-based oral health Program enhanced the uphold level of mothers.
